Bloody Valentine A Blue Bloods Book Melissa de la Cruz Books

This book is set between book 5 (Misguided Angel) and book 6 (Lost in Time); you can say it's book 5.5 in the series, but 6 physically. Regardless, this book is pretty interesting.

This book isn't like "Keys to the Repository", another novella in the Blue Bloods series; no, it includes 3 never before seen short stories revolving around Oliver Hazard Perry and Freya (a main character in the Witches of West End series); Allegra and Charles; and Schuyler and Jack.

I can't say the novellas in this book are "make or break" for this series, but they are interesting. If I had to rate them, I'd give the one about Oliver a 4 out of 5; the one about Allegra a 2 out of 5; and the one about Schuyler a 2 out of 5. They were a very quick read, around an hour, and the book was cheap.

If you have the time and some extra change, I recommend this book!

Bloody Valentine A Blue Bloods Book Melissa de la Cruz Books Reviews

I am no lover of short stories, and with that in mind, you'd think I would stop reading them. However, when short stories are part of a series I just can't resist. Bloody Valentine falls between books five and six in the Blue Bloods series and it was the perfect teaser to tide me over until Lost in Time (book six) comes out in September.
Bloody Valentine contains three short stories the first about Oliver trying to recover from being Schuyler's familiar, the second a look back in time to Allegra and Charles Van Allen's relationship, and the third a present-day account of Jack and Schuyler's bonding. The bonding is why I bought this book and although it does irk me that I paid about $10 for a book that took me an hour and a half to read, the third story was worth the cost of the book. I have been team Jack all along so it was great to read about Jack and Schuyler's happiness.

My one complaint about this book is the same complaint I have with all short stories it felt lacking in substance and depth. However, I would definitely recommend Bloody Valentine to fans of the series. It's a great addition to the series, and sets up the author's new series about witches as well (funny how convenient that is...).
If you are really into the Blue Bloods series, I am sure you have wondered about the two companion books to the series Bloody Valentine and Keys to the Repository. I was told Keys was unnecessary, and it really was- it was just filler to take the place of too much time between books. Bloody Valentine really was new material, but it might have been better as chapters within individual books than separated out into 3 short stories.

In the first story, we see Oliver pining away for Schuyler. Like most forgotten familiars, he is stuck with a love for her that she hasn't returned. But for Oliver, who grew up with Schuyler as his best friend, the loss is even more unbearable. He even considers going to a blood house to let another vampire feed from him to feel the blood ceremony once more. Luckily, a bartender (Freya from the Beauchamps series) notices what is going on with him and leads him to safety.

In the next story, we see how Allegra, Schuyler's mother, met her father. Even though she knew she was supposed to bond with Charles, her brother in this cycle, she can't bring herself to love him the way he loves her. Instead, she desperately wants a normal life, which seems to include Bendix, a Red Blood who makes her happy. Until, that is, she foresees his death and their half-blooded baby being born.

Finally, we get to see Schuyler and Jack's bonding. Against the very nature of pairs and bonding, these two Blue Bloods love each other and want to make it official before jack must return to face the woman he should have bonded with- Mimi- from which he might never return. Unfortuantely, the Venetors have found them and force Schuyler to trick Jack into wearing a ring that will harness all his power as the Angel of Destruction. Can they find a way to finish their bonding with half the world trying to kill them?

As I said, these were interesting stories, but they would have been better as chapters in previous books. Some things about the story were inconsistent with the regular series (like Schulyer's dad's name) which is confusing since they are by the same author (she really couldn't double check on that before publishing the book?). It made me a little annoyed, like perhaps Cruz is not just an author who loves her trade, but rather one who enjoys bilking her readers for all they've got. Especially when considering Keys to the Repository. Ugh. I hope that's not the case Ms. Cruz!
I loved this book!!!! It had three short stories that were to die for. The Blue Blood series is Amazing!!!!

The first story was about Oliver, Schuyler's best friend. He is in so much pain from the breakup that he considers going to the blood house to get the Sacred Kiss that way. At the pub, he meets Freya. Only Freya is not at what she seems. They hook up for one night, one time after he eats the eggs. He is no longer in pain over Schuyler. He can think about her without feeling the loss. Freya turns out be a witch and she cast a spell on the eggs. She helped him.

The second story was about Allegra and Bendix, Schuyler's parents. It was so nice to get this background information on how they met. They were so cute and sweet together. I hope I get to learn more on what happened where it left off. Allegra saw a vision and it stopped. So I hope to see more after that.

The third story was about Schuyler and Jack. I adored this story. I finally got to see them bond. Of course they had trouble at the beginning due to the Venators showing up, but they won the battle. It was so sweet. The ceremony was to die for. I finally got to see how much they truly loved each other. Poor Jack was even trembling and had tears in his eyes. It was so romantic.

If you love the Blue Blood series, you will love this book!!!! These stories fell in a lot of the what-if questions.
